Consultation, training and advice

Classroom and site training in stainless steel surface finishing, electropolishing methods, and health and safety for chemical processing.

Anokap drafts technical procedures, writes manuals and guides, and delivers one-to-one or classroom presentations. Full theoretical and practical site training is available where the work will actually be done.

The material below is taken from Anokap’s own training decks: Surface Finishing & Electropolishing Stainless Steel and Health & Safety — Electropolishing. Download the source presentations from the links at the end of this page.

Surface finishing syllabus

Typical classroom or site sessions cover:

  1. What stainless steel is, and why the “L” grades matter
  2. Why unfinished stainless often has nothing saleable to ship
  3. How machining, welding, grinding and forming damage the upper layers
  4. Electropolishing advantages and the etching / polishing / pitting window
  5. Tube methods — vertical, flash, and progressive horizontal
  6. Post-treatment, passivation and ASME BPE surface ratios
  7. Rouge, de-rouging and orbital-weld quality on electropolished tube

See the stainless steel and surface finishing notes for the written version of that deck.

Health and safety — electropolishing

Electropolishing work is split into two activities, each with its own PPE.

Processing requires gloves, goggles and an apron.

Chemical transfer requires gloves, a full face shield, a suit or apron, and boots.

Before anyone starts, the briefing covers:

  • General awareness — site, signage, equipment, containers, valves, plant status, and chemical spill kits
  • Product descriptions and data sheets — electrolyte and desmut, hazard signs, reading the MSDS and signing off
  • Chemical handling — preparation; matching PPE, equipment and product; a walk-through method statement; advising EHS and production before and after; leave the area clean and tidy
  • Equipment precautions — splashes, leaks, electricity and liquids together, DC electrical contact sparks, and cleaning during maintenance

This page is a training outline, not a substitute for the method statement, MSDS pack and site rules written for a specific job.

Sample treatment and evaluation

Where the application is not yet specified, small samples can be processed in a demonstration facility so parameter sets, methods and techniques can be established before plant or a site contract is committed.

Send a sample brief or ask for a site training date.
